Because I Love You All So Much

I haven't been having a terribly great day for a number of reasons, but this put the biggest, stupidest smile on my face: an all keyboard cover of Michael Jackson's "Beat It." I have no words for this.

You're welcome,

First Batch

As long promised, the first batch of FAWM 2009 demos have been posted on the right. All of the titles are placeholders - none of these have any lyrics yet. "Mexican Sunset" and "Mystery Bandito Rides Again" are easily the most polished, many of the others aren't much more than rough guitar (and maybe bass) sketches of chord progressions and such.

If any of these give you an idea for lyrics or whatever, feel free to let me know. Lyrics have never been my strength.

Update - Fixed the links. Thanks for catching that, Evan!

False Watchmen Spoilers So Far

Being the team player I am, I have taken it upon myself to assist one of my fellow "Rainbow" cast members get mad before she goes onstage (to say the character is irate is to put it mildly). Since I lent Stacy my copy of Watchmen, it occurred to me that spoilers (false, of course, I'm not that big of an asshole) would do the trick. And while she hasn't punched me yet, the frequency and intensity of her threats to do so have increased dramatically.

Here's what I've told her so far:
  • Rorschach is actually a woman, and wears the mask and gloves to hide her features and polished fingernails. Also, she's a Bouvier.
  • Dr. Manhattan is gay.
  • Watchmen is actually a rip-off of Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None - the Comedian faked his death and is trying to pick off the other costumed heroes.
  • The best scene of the book is the one where Night Owl helps Silk Spectre shave her back.
Less than two weeks on the Doomsday Clock,

Hey Look, A Rainbow!

"Early One Evening at the Rainbow Bar and Grille" opened last night and hot damn, did we knock it out of the park. The audience was great - very receptive, very into the show, and very responsive. One of my favorite things about theater is the difference between what you think is funny and what the audience laughs at. Jokes that still get us fly over the audience's heads while things that never struck a chord with you elicit great guffaws from the crowd. If you're going to be in the greater Sheridan metropolitan area over the next couple weekends, you need to see it. I don't think we could have asked for a better opening, so here's to the eight left to go.

And in case you missed it, this was in the Sheridan Press on Thursday:

Happy fake ass Hallmark holiday,

New and Improved?

I'm pretty sure I mentioned it at some point, but I'm in a play and it opens Friday. Being the dedicated slave to the arts I am, I have offered up my very appearance for this production by way of a shave and haircut. Behold my commitment and despair (or something)!

After:

You'll have to come to the play to see my awe-inspiring salesman comb-job. That's right, it gets even better. See you there.

Commence Primary Ignition

Boy oh boy, FAWM is under way once again. I spent yesterday afternoon rearranging stuff in New Danger Dog Studios (less formally, the second bedroom) and restringing Susan with a Nashville tuning (the other three guitars - Gillian, Dorothy, and Anna - were all restrung Saturday night). I even managed to record a guitar groove/chord progression with a bass line but no lyrics yet, so I'm not even running behind yet. I hope to get my demos up as I finish them, so brace yourselves for updates.

I'm thinking that this year will have an alt-country sort of vibe, but we'll see what happens.
